1. Magical Twist on Farming Sims
There is more than first meets the eye in the little town of Fairhaven. Magic lurks in the shadows waiting for you to discover it.
Wylde Flowers includes all of your typical farm sim activities: tend the crops, feed the animals, gather materials, cook, craft, and do quests. While you do need to spend some time tending to your farm each day, you also get to spend time discovering your inner witch.
For example: craft spells and incantations, change the colors of your farm animals, create magical mechanisms to help with farm work, and use your crystal ball to discover the deepest desires of your neighbors. In the late hours of the evening you get to sneak around on your magic broom to meet up with mysterious witches. Witches have bedtimes too, so don’t stay out too late practicing magic!
2. Diverse Characters
Fairhaven is home to a variety of lovely people. A range of different ethnicities, cultures, and ages are represented by them. There is a friendly gay couple, a widow, and a socially awkward non-binary butcher.
However, not all of the cool friends reside in Fairhaven. You also get the opportunity to build friendships with the fae folk that live in Ravenwood Hollow. Ravenwood Hollow is home to a werewolf, a demon, a goblin, and a fairy.
Really, there is a character for everyone to fall in love with, including 8 of them that can be romanced.
3. Compelling Story
This part about the story may be too spoilery for some people, so read at your own risk!
My favorite part of Wylde Flowers is the story. You play as Tara, a young woman who has moved to the island of Fairhaven to live with her grandmother. Tara discovers that her grandmother has been secretly going into the woods to meet with a coven. The coven soon welcomes Tara as a new member and she must work with them to restore balance to the town of Fairhaven.
Nefarious activities happen in Fairhaven and Tara must figure out who is behind them and put a stop to it. Throughout the year, Fairhaven’s residents call upon Tara for help with less magical needs as well. There is a special responsibility for Tara at the end of each season. Tara also learns about some coven members who are in peril and in need of her assistance, but she has to go on a dangerous mission in order to help them. The whole island relies on her!
While some of the relationship quests might be optional, I would still recommend doing them. Getting to know the individuals in the game really helped me to become immersed. At every turn the story captivated me and caused me a range of emotions, much like reading a good book. For extra credit, the developers included some fun little bits in the story involving cats!
4. Romance
As I mentioned above, there are 8 characters who are eligible for romance. I found romance in Wylde Flowers to be very fun and interesting. You get to know each character as a friend first, and once you became best friends they can ask you on a date. You can decline the date if you wish, which will put them in the friend zone.
In my first Wylde Flowers playthrough, I decided to marry Amira. She seemed too obvious of a choice at first seeing as she’s the town’s doctor. As I got to know her though, I found her confidence very appealing. Amira wasted no time in letting me know that she was interested. The path to marrying your lover in Wylde Flowers is simple, make sure to talk to them, bring their favorite gifts, and take them on dates.
Once you get married, your partner moves in with you. You have the option to give them physical affection each day, as well as a gift and some chatting. If you want to stay married, make sure you treat them well, because they will ask for a breakup if you don’t.
